Mahler: Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra/Albrecht

After ten years as chief conductor of the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and Dutch National Opera, Marc Albrecht will leave both posts halfway through 2020. In the meantime, Amsterdam audiences can look forward to another year of performances with his firm imprint, such as this high-octane Symphony no. 8 in E flat major by Gustav Mahler.

Mozart: Die Zauberflöte
At Dutch National Opera on the 4th of September, 2018
The Dutch National Opera season opens officially on the 7th of September with a third run of Simon McBurney’s production of Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, an unqualified success at its 2012 premiere. Last Tuesday, however, an audience aged between sixteen and thirty-five got to see a preview of this co-production with English National Opera and the Aix-en-Provence Festival.

American composer John Adams turns 70 this year. By way of celebration no less than seven concerts in this season’s NTR ZaterdagMatinee series feature works by Adams, including this concert version of his first opera, Nixon in China.
